The Two R's
22nd. June 2017.
Today's outing was to take the Lads on an adventure to visit the towns of Ripon and Ripley.
They are situated close to one another in North Yorkshire, we are getting there by bus or should I say luxury coach. The service provided was excellent to say the least considered it was the public service bus.
Our plans were to meet up at the bus station in Leeds for about 9:50 . This was in order to catch the 10:00 number 36 coach, the journey was expected to take about an hour and twenty minutes depending upon the traffic situation etc. Our group today consists of Eddie, Derek, Malcolm, John and Dave. Seated comfortably on the top deck of the coach our journey begins , this is an all new experience for Dave, traveling through the suburbs of Leeds, the journey time soon passes and we find ourselves in Harrogate, at this point quite a number of passengers join the coach, we soon find out the reason why! race day at Ripon!.From here our journey continues north through the villages and into Ripon. We find it very busy here in the town square, only to be expected on race day , just a short distance away is the Cathedral so this is were we headed. A different atmosphere in this place , that of peace tranquility and reverence. We spent almost an hour investigating this impressive building with all its artefacts from present and bygone times.
Cathedral Visit over we now headed for lunch at J D Weatherspoons only to find it overwhelmingly busy with last minute race goers, we now decided to try the Friendly Fryer and their delights all courtesy of Valerie and her staff, fish and chips tea bread and butter all for £4:50.
Lunch consumed its now back to the bus station and catch the coach heading back to Ripley.
Once here we treated ourselves to a delicious ice cream.
Ice cream enjoyed we now venture forward into the surrounding gardens and grounds that are present at Ripley Castle. What a treat lay in store for the Lads, magnificent tall red wood trees dwarfing us as we walk along.
Time for a bit of school boy fun!
Play time over we continue our adventure and find time for a group photo.
Soon it's time to head back to the bus stop and catch our coach to take us back home, but this was not a simple task as a road accident caused a slight problem , this involved a bit of a walk from the village bus stop to one about half a mile further along the road. This achieved we found ourselves back in Leeds a few minutes after six pm. All that remained now was to thank each other for yet another great experience.
Cheers Lads.
