Hull Museum Trip

14th. March 2019        Hull Museum Trip

For their adventure today, the lads have decided to give the East Yorkshire City of Hull a visit.
As per usual the lads will take the train, a journey of about an hour in order to reach this destination
Some of the lads boarded the train at Dewsbury the others joining at Leeds, the group will consist of Derek Dave Colin Keith and John they have arranged to meet up with Kevin at the railway station at Hull about 10:45 if all goes to plan, this is indeed what happened.

A brief exchange of greetings and a photo opportunity then the lads slowly made their way to the station exit and a chance to see the streets of this coastal city. A nearby tourist information centre was close at hand to help in directions required, so after a few minutes conversation we were soon heading on the right pathway, across the road and continue to the pedestrian shopping area . Some 10 minutes or so later and avoiding a soaking from a water fountain display we were soon outside the Maritime Museum, this would be our first port of call so to speak!.

What a delightful experience this turned out to be, such a magnificent array of artefacts and information about the Whaling and Fishing Industies that once played a major part in this cities exsistance a time scale spanning over 250 years. All this information placed in a rather splendid Victorian building that was once the offices of one of the city’s Main Shipping Companies . A truly stunning museum and very well presented.

After spending almost an hour and a half on this visit it was now time to move on and find a place to have our lunchtime meal, this was achieved courtesy of the Lion and Key public house, which was situated near to our next port of call, Streetlife
A late but rather enjoyable meal was served to us in this very quaint pub, very popular with the locals,  hence the long wait for it to arrive, nevertheless it was a welcomed break.
Less than a five minutes walk now and we were soon entering Streetlife, this establishment is located
in the Museum Quarter in the old part of the city , close to the river estuary.

A step back in time is the theme here , you are viewing what things were like in the 1940’s
Transportation of the era along with various High Street Shops which the lads would have been familiar with in their boyhood days. A railway level crossing setting complete with Signal Box and small goods yard , the lads found a gaming  machine arcade and were able to play a game of football a relic from the past so to speak. Time drifting on in this adventure, we should be heading back towards the Paragon Interchange in order to catch our train back home, but not before finding an ice cream parlour, this turned out to be a rather lengthy experience, several choices were doomed, but relentless searching found one just in time, a parlour named Kaspa’s came to the rescue and what a delight.

A very quick demolition of our requested  treets , then a run for the train was called for.
Saying farewell to Kevin the rest of us climbing aboard the 16:40 back to Leeds etc.

What an unbelievable experience here in Hull
Cheers Lads.
