Howgill to Addingham

Image
27th September 2017 Well it's back to the riverside pathway again, we find ourselves in the Yorkshire Dales for another  adventure. This time we are walking down stream from Howgill past Bolton Abbey and onto Addingham . Today our group consists of Eddie Colin Malcolm Keith Dave and John. Our meeting point is Ilkley, Time about 10:00 am. This is in order to join the queue for the limited seat availability on the No. 74 bus, only 16 passengers allowed. Never the less we are all gathered there in Ilkley and are soon heading for the Dales, excitement and anticipation gather as we pass various bus stops, eventually the driver says here you are Lads and enjoy your walk. He has dropped us off just a few hundred yards from the riverside at a location close to Howgill. We soon get our bearings and the adventure begins. The first stretch of this walk is single file along the river bank, then opens up into wide meadows full of different farm ani

Appletreewick to Grassington

20th. September 2017.     Today the lads have decided to take a walk from Appletreewick alongside the river Wharf  and head for the village of Grassington a distance of some 6 miles or so! On this occasion we are a group of just 4, Colin Derek John and Dave. So off we set heading north to the Yorkshire Dales, 3 of us aboard the 9:32 Leeds to Ilkley train , this is where we will meet up with John in order to catch the number 74A bus from Ilkley to Grassington, this is a very limited service, hence the Wednesday outing and only 3 scheduled trips. As we join the queue and wait for the bus to arrive others in this queue begin doing a head count! the reason for this, only 16 passengers allowed on this bus. No standing allowed.Luckily our group should make it. Unfortunately we had to leave some intended passengers behind here in Ilkley. Rules are rules said the bus driver, but surely there was 1 seat spare, No he said that's for me , we have a new recruit today and it'

Llandudno Trip

Image
5th September 2017  Today the lads have decided to stretch their wings and visit another country, it's just over 3 hours away by Train. The country in question is Wales, the northern part and the resort of Llandudno. As usual the journey will begin from Leeds Railway Station, Colin has purchased our tickets up front  in order to gain a price reduction? We should have been a group of 6 but Malcolm had to cancel at the last minute. So it was left to Keith John Derek Dave and Colin to sample the delights of North Wales. Weather wise we seem to have chosen a rather wet day if the forecast is anything to go by, heavy rain overnight as left a damp misty feel to our journey start, fingers crossed we hope for better things to come. So it's all aboard the 8:33 heading for Manchester Piccadilly Station, once here we change train and take the 9:50 which will be westward bound and pass the many stations on our way, journey time just a little more than 2 hours .
