Whitby to Sandsend

Image
27th. September 2018.                 Whitby to Sandsend  Our adventure today will take us to the East Yorkshire Coast, the intended destination will be the resort of Sandsend. The journey there will begin as usual with meeting up at Leeds Railway Station  in order to catch the 9:20 train heading for Scarborough. Our eventual group will number six in total, this being John, Eddie, Colin, Dave and Derek, Allan will be joining us at Scarborough. True to form the train was delayed by a few minutes , as most of the trains are these days , we also had a platform change to contend with. We finally departed Leeds at 9:32 heading for York and beyond, our journey time is just over an hour, so with only a few minutes to spare we now joined the ever increasing que of passengers waiting to climb aboard the X93 Whitby bound bus, good job it was a double decker. With almost ever seat occupied , we set off on this very scenic route exploring the wonderful countryside here in Yorkshire.

11th. September 2018.           Walk to Grandpa Greene’s Today’s adventure wouldn’t take the Lads too far, in fact it was just a short train journey West  to the village of Greenfield, which is situated on the outskirts of Oldham, Lancashire.  Our group will consist of Eddie, Keith, John, Derek, Dave and Colin, Malcolm has other commitments. We should all meet up on the 9:53 train heading from Leeds towards Manchester Piccadilly, stopping at various stations on its way, namely  Morley and Dewsbury  .After passing through the Standedge  tunnel we arrived at Greenfield Station some 40 minutes later. From here it was only a few hundred yards to the steps which lead us to the canal side footpath, to our delight this pathway was not too muddy considering  the amount of overnight rain in this particular area. We were soon into our stride as we headed back east following the coarse of the Huddersfield Narrow Cutt Canal which would eventually
