Whitby to Sandsend
27th. September 2018. Whitby to Sandsend
Our adventure today will take us to the East Yorkshire Coast, the intended destination will be the resort of Sandsend. The journey there will begin as usual with meeting up at Leeds Railway Station
in order to catch the 9:20 train heading for Scarborough. Our eventual group will number six in total,
this being John, Eddie, Colin, Dave and Derek, Allan will be joining us at Scarborough. True to form the train was delayed by a few minutes , as most of the trains are these days , we also had a platform change to contend with. We finally departed Leeds at 9:32 heading for York and beyond, our journey time is just over an hour, so with only a few minutes to spare we now joined the ever increasing que of passengers waiting to climb aboard the X93 Whitby bound bus, good job it was a double decker.
With almost ever seat occupied , we set off on this very scenic route exploring the wonderful countryside here in Yorkshire.
The weather today is a blessing, a warm sunny day with a light breeze and a temperature of about 20 degrees or so. On arrival at the resort of Whitby we were soon into our stride and heading for the beach, the tide is low so there should be sufficient time to get to Sandsend and back before the sea begins lapping at our feet .As our journey along the beach began it soon became apparent the so called light breeze turned into a rather stiff one , so much so one of our group had a little difficulty negotiating part of this outward journey to Sandsend.
We did all eventually make it to our intended goal. After some twenty minutes respite and a brief discussion we now decided to make our return journey back to Whitby and enjoy a well deserved lunch at Trenches Fish Restaurant.
So at a few minutes to 3pm we were sitting at table number one and being taken care of by our designated waitress Karen, who did a splendid job of looking after us.
Meals enjoyed with much pleasure , it was now time to settle the bill and make our way towards the bus stop , much confusion ensued here as a number of buses were parked up and with very little information as to which was going where. Ten minutes later and all was resolved as we sat on the top deck and were heading back towards Scarborough, yet again this bus was heavily ladened with passengers it was a struggle for it to climb the rather hilly terrain around this region.
Eventually we made it back to base , this enabled us to catch our train back towards Leeds.
Yet another fantastic day out made all the better by the company and the Weather
Cheers Lads.
