2019 Revisited
8th. December 2019. A year of Events
Today is a look back at what the lads have experienced throughout this year including the highs and the lows.
January started off with a visit to the Science and Industry Museum in the heart of Manchester
Next it was off to Scarborough again and an enjoyable walk along the sea front in order to taste our favourite delight of fish and chips courtesy of the North Bay Fisheries, not forgetting the Harbour Bar Visit.
February now and next it was a canal side walk that took us from Slaithwaite onto the next village of Marsden , nice to be out in the fresh air. Also taking note of what the Riverside Pub had to offer regarding our food requirements. Christmas in mind!
The next few outings where mainly concerned with getting our dear friend Eddie Hampshire back to his usual self after undergoing some serious cancer treatments , so some nearby home walking took place around Garforth etc. This included visits to St. Aidan’s nature reserve on a couple of occasions a local stroll around Garforth and a steady trek around the grounds of Temple Newsome.
Feeling somewhat better Eddie managed to join us on quite a few more adventures , some of these involved a trip back to Ribblehead and Bike riding along the seafront at Cleethorpes with a visit to the grounds of Harewood House in between which took place in April .
During the month of May the lads managed to get lost on a walk near Wetherby which was later resolved, followed by a trip to explore the Eden Camp Experience . All good fun.
Now in to June and the Lads ventured off to the city of Chester and walked along its ancient walls before heading for the Cathedral and what it had to offer. Then it was off to Ilkley and short riverside
walk in this delightful town.
Next was an exciting visit to the Tram Museum near the village of Crich in north Derbyshire , this
was on a rather warm day in July. This month also saw a trip to the East Coast for a few of the lads to walk along the cliff tops from Ravenscar to RobinHoods Bay, must remember this adventure thought
John.
August brought about a different experience with a large gathering of friends to celebrate Colin’s birthday he would reach the age of 70. What a truly wonderful night out at a restaurant in Leeds.
Now back to that Ravenscar Walk, a few more lads this time and what a great day it turned out to be .
In between time the situation regarding our dear friend Eddie had taken a turn for the worst, so with this in mind a Trip to Golden Acre Park was hurriedly arranged and quite a few lads where only too keen to attend, sadly this was to be Eddies last outing with us all, he passed away some few days later and will be greatly missed.
Early October now and the lads have decided to revisit Golden Acre Park as a mark of respect to Eddie, whilst here it was time to reflect upon the many, many adventures we had experienced with him as we consumed one of his favourite pork pies.
From here the next adventure took the lads back to Scarborough , to clear their minds so to speak
and reach some normality, although this may take a while yet.
The end of October so a few lads take a walk in the woods surrounding Newmillerdam and admire
the changing colour of the leafs at this time of year.
November now and this brought about a much awaited journey to our capital city of London, what another great experience this turned out to be.
St. Aidan’s would be the next trip out and a first time visit for some of the Lads, enjoyable but rather muddy.
This years December Christmas Dinner would require a return visit to the village of Marsden and what a delight it turned out to be .
All in all this year as been full of surprising adventures and misfortune, let’s hope next year brings better things.
Merry Christmas Lads.
