The Marsden Gathering
5th December 2019. Christmas Dinner Outing
Today would see a group of seven lads meet up in the village of Marsden , which is situated on the far reaches of their home county of West Yorkshire. Their means of getting to this intended location will take on somewhat of a twist. At the time of choosing this venue at the Brewery Tap Riverside Pub in Marsden , all seemed pretty clear , a canal side walk from the village of Slaithwaite on to Marsden was considered then our Christmas Dinner at the pub. But recent weather conditions and alternative arrangements have interfered with these plans. John had to travel up from Brackley , quite a logistic operation, Colin Malcolm and Dave have decided to do the walk after all , and will be taking an earlier train, the rest of the lads which will include Derek ,Keith and John Howarth should arrive in Marsden from the 12:38 train. But things didn’t go quite to plan, John informed us that his connecting trains where not running to schedule some 15 minutes delay which could cause him problems, Colin and Malcolm’s train from Leeds to Huddersfield was running some 8 minutes late ,so they could miss their intended meet up with Dave at this Station, Derek decided to catch an earlier train from Dewsbury to Huddersfield where he was due to meet Keith and John Howarth, unfortunately this did not happen.
However things did eventually sort themselves out, Colin Malcolm and Dave managed to take on the walk , but it was Derek and John that were first to arrive at the pub followed closely by John Howarth who came by taxi from Huddersfield,
then the canal walkers arrived just minutes before the intended time of 1:15 only to find Keith was well behind schedule.
A decision to delay dinner was now put in place, 2 o’clock was suggested which should give Keith enough time to reach us. After all this mayhem we eventually all sat down to eat our lunch at about 2:30, the dining room was full of other travellers enjoying their lunches and so did we, what a grand
Time drifted on as we sat enjoying the atmosphere of this friendly riverside pub in Marsden, looking outside we noticed rain had began to fall, so it would be quite an unpleasant walk back up the hill to the Railway Station to catch a later train than expected,
once at Huddersfield it was time to disperse and take our various trains back home , not before wishing everyone all the best for Christmas.
Cheers Lads
Yet again another great days experience.
