Walton to Anglers Country Park.
7th July 2021. Walton to Anglers Country Park
Today would see the Lads meet up in the village of Walton, which is situated just on the outskirts of Wakefield . They will be a group of seven for this adventure which will include John, Colin , Malcolm and Brian who have traveled to Walton by means of Train and Bus , Dave , Keith and Derek have arrived by car. The rendezvous time was a few minutes after 11:00 am. Outside the New Inn public house in Walton.
From this point the Lads would take the footpath off in the direction of Royston, the pathway follows the route of the now disused Barnsley Canal, after about 30 minutes they would leave the canal footpath and now follow the perimeter pathway taking them around the outside wall of the Walton Hall estate and on into Haw Park Wood a large wooded area occupied by magnificent tall pine trees, this location offers up a variety of walking trails tailored to your individual needs.( some later adventures for the Lads). Almost an hour into their walk and the Lads arrived at the roadway that would take them in the direction of the Anglers Country Park and the cafe situated in this location. Twenty minutes later the Lads were enjoying a short tea break before taking a somewhat brief glimpse at the great views of the lake that as been constructed here. With a couple of photo opportunities thrown in for good measure.
We now retraced our steps back towards Haw Park Wood and then decided to take a different pathway heading in the direction of Walton, some confusion ensued over the next half mile or so with a further array of pathways to consider, eventually after a couple of mishaps we all managed to get on the right footpath that would lead us back towards Walton and the New Inn just in time for a pre booked table and a lunch time meal, it was now 2:35 with almost 7 miles of walking undertaken the Lads were more than ready for a well deserved rest and a bite to eat. With our meals enjoyed and the time approaching 4:00 pm it was time to say farewell to Walton and make our return journeys home.
What an interesting and enjoyable adventure with great a bunch of friends.
Cheers Lads
