Woollyknit Cafe

                     Christmas Lunch 2017

Thursday 7th December

Today’s adventure will take us over the hills and into the lost parts of Yorkshire, to the small village of Diggle in the Saddleworth region. We are traveling there by means of the number 184 local bus from Huddersfield to Manchester. Our arrangements are to meet up at the bus station in Huddersfield a few minutes  after 11 o’clock . We intend to arrive in Diggle some time before 12:30 as this is the scheduled time for our Christmas lunch to begin.

Today we are the so called magnificent seven! This bunch includes in order of merit for past achievements, ie:- shots on target
Derek  Colin Dave. Keith Malcolm John and Eddie. These results can be verified at the Sheriffs Office, Tombstone.

As we entered the Woollyknit Cafe we were greeted with such pleasant surprise as can be seen from the seasonal head gear we were wearing. A few minutes later we were shown to our reserved table and our festive lunch began, first a drink of mulled wine with roasted chestnuts to nibble upon.
Then our individual menu choices were to be served, all these arrangements had be taken care of by our trusted and diligent colleague Colin the Kid. Our meals continued to be served and consumed with such delight the conversation was just as rewarding and the time seemed to fly by.

Soon it was time to leave the delights of the Woollyknit behind us and head for our home bound bus, but not before a short stroll along the canal to see the tunnel entrance at Standedge. From here we wondered past the village school causing some amusement to parents and children alike as we still had our festive head gear on. With still some time to waste before our bus was due, it was back to the
Woollyknit for a last cuppa, then an agonising wait for this long over due bus to transport us back to Huddersfield. Some 20 minutes later it eventually arrived , in the meantime one of our gang got a pleasant surprise, his granddaughter appeared from nowhere, a family friend picking her up from School in the surrounding area, was making a visit to this location and spotted us at the bus stop .
Such a wonderful thing to have happened.

As we boarded the bus the weather was turning wintry and cold , this journey back to Huddersfield took about 50 minutes or so , then time to say farewell to some of the gang as the rest headed for the railway  station and our train back home.
What a fantastic day!
A most enjoyable meal with the bestest of friends
Cheers Lads
