Scarborough Trip
24th January 2019. Scarborough Trip
Today’s adventure would see some of the lads take their annual January visit to the East coast resort of Scarborough, a trip done many times before but still greeted with the same enthusiasm.
The group for today’s experience will be Keith, Derek, Malcolm, Dave and John, all meeting up at Leeds Railway Station in order to board the 9:21 train leaving from platform 11b. A few minutes late the train pulled away and our journey began, a cold day had been the early forecast so suitable attire was the order of the day, but much to our surprise a rather pleasant day was the outcome, plenty of sunshine and relatively no east coast breezes to deal with.
We eventually arrived at Scarborough a few minutes after 10:30. Our plans for today were to walk from the South Bay along Marine Drive heading for the North Bay and once there enjoy the delights of the fishery situated near by, this is what was achieved. So with fish and chips boxed up we strolled across the road into Peasholm Park and sat there in the sunshine to relish them , yum yum.
I
The overnight temperatures here on the east coast had been below freezing so it was no surprise that the lake here in the park was iced over. Our lunches consumed it was back to Marine Drive and a steady walk back to the streets of Scarborough heading for the famous Harbour Bar and a well deserved treat. Five Peach Melba’s were ordered and oh boy were they delicious, even though brain freeze had to be endured throughout this process
. Enjoyment over it was now time to continue our walk , this time we took to the beach as the tide was out , so a pleasant half hour stroll was enjoyed before the sun disappeared out of our view.
At this point we made our way from the beach and made the steady climb back towards the Grand Hotel and once in this area we were able to enjoy a cuppa in a nearby cafe, which was a converted tramway that took you from the beach to the Cliff top. Splendid views from this vantage point. As 4pm approached it was now time to leave this cafe and begin our journey back towards the railway station, with almost 30 minutes to wait for our train to arrive, we sat and reflected upon our visit to this East Coast Resort, the train journey back to Leeds became exciting at one point, confusion and a short delay lead to heated exchanges between some passengers and the conductor, who tried to lay the blame at our door , John handeled this situation withhis usual
calmness. All added to the enjoyment of our days trip to Scarborough.
Cheers Lads.
Lovely update Dave and much appreciated! I might not have been there physically but I was there in spirit.
