Woodland Walk.

31st. October 2019.        Woodland Walk at Newmillerdam  Today it was just a trio of lads that took advantage of some late October sunshine and stretch their legs with an adventure into the woodland that surrounds the lakes at Newmillerdam. The location is a short bus ride from the centre of Wakefield heading towards Barnsley. Dave has arranged to meet the two other lads  Colin and John at the bus stop adjacent to the Dam at a time about 15 minutes before midday. They had taken the number  59 bus in order to get there,  greetings over they now began their walk along the north east side of the dam ,following this footpath for just under a mile before branching off up into the woods and taking an alternative path around the perimeter of this particular location. From here it was across the cornfield and over the stream before climbing the embankment leading to the disused railway line, once here we were now heading back west and rejoin the wooded area that surrounds the dam, on
SCARBOROUGH Thursday, 17 October 2019 It was a windy day in Greendale but fortunately we were going to Scarborough so it wasn’t going to have an impact on our leisurely day out and stroll around.  We all met up in Leeds City Station on Platform 15B and this week’s travellers would be Malcolm, John, Colin, Derek and Keith to catch the  10:21  to Scarborough arriving a little after  11:40  to be met at Scarborough by our dear friend Alan. The weather was bright and sunny with a slight breeze which in the circumstances would be a blessing. The plan was to take in Fish and Chips at North Bay Fisheries and then stroll along Marine Drive to the Harbour Bar for our obligatory Ice Cream and then on to South Bay for more exercise and fresh sea air.  However, on reaching North Bay Fisheries we found the doors closed and it wasn’t scheduled to open  until 16:30  which was neither use nor ornament meaning we had to quickly make alternative arrangements that we would call “The Noizy Boyz Contingenc

For this was the last time they would have been in the company of their truly great friend Eddie. It turned out to be his last outing with the Lads. A short term serious illness as taken him from us.  So in a mark of great respect to our dear friend we have made the journey back here. Firstly we took a short walk to visit an area known as Paul’s Pond , a delightful small fishing lake with plenty of bird life in the surrounding woodlands. It is a rather cold day here in this part of north Leeds , so a warm drink was the order of the day now. So with our coffees and teas to hand and armed with a Pork Pie each ,which happened to be one of Eddies favourite bites to eat and with a heart full of memories we sat and reflected upon the great times we had shared together. We then slowly retraced the steps we took with
