Woodland Walk.

31st. October 2019.        Woodland Walk at Newmillerdam

Today it was just a trio of lads that took advantage of some late October sunshine and stretch their legs with an adventure into the woodland that surrounds the lakes at Newmillerdam. The location is a short bus ride from the centre of Wakefield heading towards Barnsley. Dave has arranged to meet the two other lads  Colin and John at the bus stop adjacent to the Dam at a time about 15 minutes before midday. They had taken the number  59 bus in order to get there,  greetings over they now began their walk along the north east side of the dam ,following this footpath for just under a mile before branching off up into the woods and taking an alternative path around the perimeter of this particular location.

From here it was across the cornfield and over the stream before climbing the embankment leading to the disused railway line, once here we were now heading back west and rejoin the wooded area that surrounds the dam, on our way we came across many other walkers who were also enjoying the same delightful experiences that we were enjoying, the pleasant sunshine the freshness on our faces and the good feeling of being out and about in woods who’s colourful leaf display was now beginning to show.

We passed the time of day on a couple of these encounters as we made our way through the forest heading back towards the start of the dam and the sanctuary of the Beulay Cafe to have a well deserved lunch. We reached this location at about 1:45 ordered our meals then sat and enjoyed them
whilst discussing our future plans ie. the London Trip which is next week. On leaving the cafe and armed with some mis-information re bus times back into Wakefield, we now crossed the road and aimed for the ice cream van which was parked close to the dam wall, once here we all enjoyed a 99 with flake and raspberry juice, yum ,yum

. The 14:27 bus did drive past , we were told it didn’t, so unfortunately the lads were unable to take that one , so we walked a few bus stops nearer to Wakefield and eventually caught the 15:05.

A different but enjoyable day out walking.
A total distance of about 5 miles.
Cheers Lads.
