SCARBOROUGH
Thursday, 17 October 2019
It was a windy day in Greendale but fortunately we were going to Scarborough so it wasn’t going to have an impact on our leisurely day out and stroll around.
We all met up in Leeds City Station on Platform 15B and this week’s travellers would be Malcolm, John, Colin, Derek and Keith to catch the 10:21 to Scarborough arriving a little after 11:40 to be met at Scarborough by our dear friend Alan. The weather was bright and sunny with a slight breeze which in the circumstances would be a blessing.
The plan was to take in Fish and Chips at North Bay Fisheries and then stroll along Marine Drive to the Harbour Bar for our obligatory Ice Cream and then on to South Bay for more exercise and fresh sea air.
However, on reaching North Bay Fisheries we found the doors closed and it wasn’t scheduled to open until 16:30 which was neither use nor ornament meaning we had to quickly make alternative arrangements that we would call “The Noizy Boyz Contingency Plan.”
This would still include our Marine Drive stroll but it meant a lengthier walk up to South Bay to take in lunch where Alan had recommended a small establishment up in the hillside called Clock “Tower” Café that was slightly different from our original intention but nevertheless very enjoyable and the views from our vantage point were spectacular.
On finishing our meals, we made our way back to the Harbour Bar to enjoy a well-earned ice-cream where we all sat round enjoying out various choices, absolutely delightful so after finishing and saying goodbye to Alan who was going in a different direction we were ready to leave The Harbour Bar.
By this time departure time was fast approaching so we made our way to the funicular railway that carried those prepared to pay a £1 to the top of the park a couple of tight wads sadly decided not to support Scarborough’s heritage railway. At the top of the railway the stroll back to the Railway Station was made much easier for tired legs and sore backs after using the funicular railway.
On our arrival at the station we departed on the 16:44 back to Leeds on a brand-new train, powered from the rear by 68025 “SUPERB” for a smooth journey back to Leeds arriving around 18:04.
Another lovely day out covering approximately 13 kilometres! Thank you to all the lads who made this special day out so enjoyable.
