Ice Breaker’s at Roundhay Park.
Tuesday 23rd. June 2020. Ice Breaker’s at Roundhay Park
Today saw the first adventure for some of the lads since early March, the deadly Corvid-19 virus being the culprit of a worldwide pandemic, leading to serious lockdown measures being put in place.
So it is with bated breath that two of the group along with a fellow workmate have decided to break the ice so to speak and take a trip to Roundhay Park in Leeds. The lads in question are John and Colin along with a guest appearance by Ian Piercy , this is the first meeting for a long, long time between these former workmates about 15 years or so, as you can imagine there was a lot of catching up to do.
Firstly though the lads had to make there way to this venue, by what means were at their disposal. For John it would involve a three bus journey there and back, for Colin maybe 2, Ian came by car. Certain rules are now in place for public transport use, so this was of concern to both of the Lads but according to reports all went well.
Colin and John met up in New Briggate in the centre of Leeds about 10:45 then took the 11:02 X99 bus to Roundhay Park , leaving the bus at Old Swimming Baths entrance gate about 30 minutes later. From here they took a short walk into the park where they met up with Ian. Now they took a steady walk in a anti clockwise direction around the lake before heading towards the castle to enjoy a pre prepared lunch and then began reminiscing about old times back at the factory etc. Various names sprang to mind ie, Ronnie Dacre and Ken Barber regarding what rolls they play in the antics at Thackrays Establishment. After lunch the walking continued taking in the second lake has they headed for the other side of the park and the bus stop nearby. From here the two lads would take the No 12 bus back to Vicar Lane , Ian made his way back to the car park. Colin and John however decided to enjoy an ice cream before taking the bus back into the city. Great relief to the lads that the public transport rules were overcome without too much suffering and discomfort, so much so that future outings are now being planned.
