Ribblehead Revisited

Image
Ribblehead    Revisited  Wednesday 23rd June 2021. Today four of the lads have decided to take a train journey northwards and stretch their legs with a walk around the location of the Ribblehead Viaduct. Colin Brian and Dave have caught the 10:48 Leeds to Carlisle train, John will join them at Bingley. It was a pleasant day as the lads left Leeds station but what a shock when they got off the train at Ribblehead, a rather Misty outlook greeted them with a cool feel in the air. Nevertheless the Lads ventured forward on what was to be an interesting walk. Quite a number of other travellers were in this location, so the customary conversations took place with much gusto. Ramblers out with their dogs , groups of army cadets on training exercises, young school kids enjoying a caving experience along with visiting holiday makers from many different locations judging by their accents. Rounded off with an Helicopter fly pass, All of us having to endure some moments of drizzley rain at times,

Scarborough Trip

Blog Thursday 17 June 2021  Leeds - Scarborough  It was an overcast day as Brian, John and myself rendezvoused at Leeds City Station on platform 15B for the  09:27  to Scarborough which was a direct service arriving in Scarborough just before  11:00 .  On arrival we set off for North Bay Fisheries but sadly on our arrival it was not opening  until 16:30  which was no good for three hungry individuals who had travelled over seventy miles for this treat.  However, after a brief discussion we decided to return to the Lookout on the pier which necessitated in walking the full marine Drive that was established in 1908.  We climbed up from the North Bay and down the path to the Marine Drive and bumped into Steve Cockerham and his wife and two friends so catching up on the past and after a ten minute chat we headed off for our dinner at the Lookout and wondered would it be open? Fortunately, it was and we ordered our meals which arrived reasonably quickly and we tucked in to satiate our hun

9th.  June 2021.  Today it was a big hip hip hooray, for six of the Lads were to meet  up for a walk at last. Their intended walk would take them from Sandal/Agbrigg railway station to the nature park created on the site of the old colliery workings near  the village of Walton and then return to the railway station via a vist to the local pub, the New Inn for a lunch time meal. The distance of this walk could range from between 4 and 5 miles in total, all depends upon which footpath the Lads take, there are numerous ones on offer. The Lads have planned to meet up at the Sandal/ Agbrigg railway station just a few minutes after 11am .John Colin and Brian are taking the train from Leeds, while Keith Derek and Dave will be arriving by car. From the station car park they will be following the trackside footpath that will take them in the direction of Walton , some 15 minutes later they came to the main road at which point they took a left turn and followed the road for about 100 yards then
