A Day Out with Doris

23 February 2017           Lads Day out at Scarborough

The weather forecasters told us to stay at home , why!, because Storm Doris was on her way.
But with rail tickets purchased some days before , nothing was going to stop the Lads visiting Scarborough again. So we climbed aboard the 9:03 in Leeds and headed East not knowing what to expect. Our arrival at Scarborough some 90 minutes later was greeted with joy , a little blue sky could be seen , (enough to make a little Boys trousers, according to the old saying ) now our tour of the resort began.
A walk along Valley Bridge Road towards the Spa Cliff Gardens taking in the marvellous views from this vantage point, from here we took the old spa cliff lift down to the shore line and our walk along the beach heading for the start of marine drive. After some 10 minutes on the beach a rain shower came along so we made a swift exit and headed for some brief shelter on the promenade.

Showers over and our trekking continues along marine drive heading for the distant North Bay and lunch. But before we ate our lunch at the famous North Bay Fisheries we enjoyed the crashing waves of the sea that were being swept up along the shore line, maybe by Doris!
Now a short ride on the Miniature Railway towards the Park and then the short walk for lunch.

Lunch over now the long walk back along marine drive heading for the Harbour Bar and some lite refreshments , some 50 minutes later the weather began to turn, strong winds and driving rain began to batter us , but we journeyed on eventually reaching the Harbour Bar 15 minutes later.
The time was about 3:00 pm and the rain had set in by now, so it was a somewhat disrupted journey back towards the railway station. Refuge being sought in the many amusement arcades on our way.

Time to make a last dash for the station by way of the cliff railway and then the walk up the high street . We were catching the 16:50 train back home.

Yet another great experience for the Lads
