Mirfield to Huddersfield waterside Walk.     23rd November 2017.    Nine days on from our Liverpool Trip and we find ourselves by the waterside again. This time we are to venture into the unknown! A walk from the small town of Mirfield to the much larger town of Huddersfield, both situated in West Yorkshire along side the river Calder. We are a group of five for today’s outing, Derek, Dave , Colin, John and Malcolm. The other lads have other commitments unfortunately. Whilst four of us traveled to Mirfield in mediocre style, John arrived by a much more classier train, ha ha. Grand Central.  Our arrangements were to meet up a few minutes before 11 o’clock , study the information at hand then begin this new adventure. After some 10 minutes or so we eventually found the footpath that lead us to the riverside , this proved to be rather muddy at first, so it was a dodgy few hundred yards to start off with as we straddle the walkway, eventually we came to better footing

14th . November 2017 Guess what! Today we are returning to the city of Liverpool, to enjoy some more of its cultural diversity. Again it starts with a train journey from Leeds heading west via Huddersfield and Manchester and then onto Lime Street Station. We are a group of seven for today’s adventure, those involved are Keith, John, Colin, Malcolm, Eddie along with Derek and Dave, we arrived in Liverpool  a few minutes after 10 o’clock. Once we had got our bearings, it was a steady walk in the direction of the Anglican Cathedral which sits commanding a prominent position in the magnificent city. We walk on ,passing the China Town region and then up towards this wonderful building . Upon our entrance we are amazed by the enormity of this structure, we wonder around for a short  while taking in its magnificence. Later we all gathered to experience a trip to the top of the tower, this  involves a ride in 2 lifts and then climb 108 steps to take advantage of the panor

Greenfield and Standedge

GREENFIELD AND STANDEDGE 02 NOVEMBER 2017 The five walkers  (Keith, Eddie, John, Malcolm and Colin) all  assembled in Leeds City Station waiting for the 09:53 to Huddersfield train which was running a little late causing us some concern for our connection train to Wigan  at 10:15  but in the  end,  it all turned out fine making our connection as expected depa r ting Huddersfield on time bound for our destination at  travelling through Slaithwaite and Marsden before arriving in  Greenfield  at 10:36. Du l y arriving at Greenfield we made our way down to the Canal but not before our second in command for this walk had set his MapMyWalk App to measure the exact distance travelled which in the end was just a li tt le over six miles but what a lovely six miles it turned out to be.  Our leader today Keith was given much appreciation for this particular walk  that  was as near to perfect as one has come to expect on our  journeys into   the unknown. Surrounded by wonderful hillsides

Scarborough

SCARBOROUGH TUESDAY 17 OCTOBER 2017 It was a reduced group  of five  that assembled  in  Leeds City Station for our trip to Scarborough meeting at the new seating area on PLATFORM 11 – 15 for the 09:12 to Scarborough via York, Malton and Seamer arriving in Scarborough at 10:44 some fifteen minutes late due to Ophelia we suspect.  The Famous Five today consisted of Colin, Keith, Malcolm< Derek and John. Dave and Eddie unable to attend due to other commitments. We set off for the North of Whitby and pass our eating establishment (North Bay Fisheries) where we will be having dinner in one hour’s time . We wander through Peasholm  Park and then take the route past the miniature railway and up to the Sea Life Centre where John sees an opportunity to go scrambling up the hillside and mud to walk to Claughton. This idea is quickly and decisively  beaten  into submission  and we continue with our planned walk back to North Bay Fisheries to enjoy a superb lunch before descending to Mar
