Woodlesford to Cross Gates

          6th February 2018

Our quest today was to walk from the picturesque village of Woodlesford , along country lanes muddy paths and tarmac roadways until  we reach the village of  Cross Gates , a distance of some 5 miles or so. On our way we will pass through the grounds of Temple Newsam.

Today we are a group of seven, consisting  of Malcolm, Eddie, John, Derek, Colin, Dave and Alan.
The arrangements were to meet up at the railway station in Woodlesford at about 10:30 or so.
This achieved , we were then greeted to a pork pie surprise  of delicious taste, courtesy of Eddie which he had purchased from a local butchers shop Howgate & Farrow. Pies consumed we began our journey which now took us over the river bridge and onto a country lane , situated along this lane is the small vineyard of a local man , his establishment is named Leventhorpe Vineyard, Eddie had spoken to him some days previous and made some kind of arrangements for us to take a look around, unfortunately the owner didn’t honour his invitation to us.

From here we continued our walk eventually crossing over the M1 motorway, which was rather noisy on into more tranquil surroundings of the grounds of Temple Newsam, how peaceful. At this point gentle flurries of snow began to fall around our ears!

The pathways here were quite slippery and muddy. We eventually reached more solid footing by way of the tarmac pavements that lead us onto Cross Gates and a well deserved lunch in the Station Inn, what enjoyable meals we all were treated to
and very warmly appreciated. Inevitably we left the Station Inn and walk the short distance to the platform here in Cross Gates in order to catch our train back to Leeds and then our various ways home.
Yet another great day out with the Lads.
