Scarborough with a Twist.
20th March 2018.
The lads outing today was to take on a unforeseen change of plans!
Our journey started off in the customary way! We all meet up at Leeds Railway Station in order to catch the relevant train that would carry us to our required destination. Today our intended journey should have taken us to the East Coast resort of Scarborough aboard the 9:12 train, from here we would catch the Whitby bus , then walk along the beach to Sandsend and back. Little did we know this was all about to change. The train journey was fine with Colin, Malcolm, John, Derek and Dave about to experience a sudden change to their arrangements.
Arrived at Scarborough about 10:40 just in time to catch the X 93 Whitby bus , all safely aboard and off we go, less than a few hundred yards into our journey we suddenly here this all mighty crashing sound, had something hit the bus or had we collided with an obstacle of some sort!
Minutes later we were to find out, as the bus came to a stop at a non convenient place, the driver jumped off the bus and went running back down the road , moments later he returned carrying a large wing mirror which had detached itself from the bus . Confusion was now to ensue, a few passengers, John included, tried to assist the driver replace the wing mirror but with not very much success.
In between time the driver had consulted with his bus company looking for some guidance regarding this unfortunate mishap, result the bus was going no further with passengers aboard, a replacement bus was enlisted to rescue the situation but that would take some time, it was coming from Redcar of all places.
Time now for the Lads to make a quick decision, do we stay here at Scarborough or venture somewhere else! A few minutes later we were heading back towards the Railway Station and soon
found ourselves aboard a train taking us in the direction of Bridlington, time to smile now at the
Our journey to this other coastal resort was not too lengthy and we soon found ourselves heading for the town centre and enjoy a lunch time meal.
This was not to be, a recommended fish restaurant was far from the best we have had, so with mixed feelings we now headed for the beach and a chance to stretch our legs. That was until the weather took
a turn for the worst and the rains came down, a swift exit from the beach and find shelter in some
nearby accommodation huts etc.
nearby accommodation huts etc.
After a short respite from the rain we now headed back towards the town centre and enjoy a well deserved visit to the ice cream parlour, some time was spent in this establishment before we
Our train back to Scarborough was due about 3:30 as we left the resort behind us the sun had begun to shine and also greeted us on our arrival at Scarborough, once here there was just enough time to enjoy a cuppa in the nearby Weatherspoons. The train back to Leeds was leaving at 16:50.
What a twist to today’s adventure, even so it was a great day out with the Lads.
Cheers.
Little did John know that his willingness to help the driver was being appreciated by the rest of the passengers aboard this bus, along with the odd passes by. Colin and Derek we doing a running commentary of the event playing on the attributes of John’ skills, especially when he came out of the butchers shop with a stepladder in his hands. Well done John.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely day out and whilst I was a little under the weather from my over exertion at the Gym the previous day I still enjoyed the day. I was also fortunate that I enjoyed my cod fish and mushy peas unlike the haddock eaters, although Malcolm enjoyed his meal as much as I did. Nothing queerer than folk. The fresh air must have done me good because I was back to my sluggish best the following day. Great day out!
