Southport Adventure
2nd. August 2018. The Southport Adventure
Well what an amazing adventure today turned out to be, we really did shake a double six!today.
Not knowing what to expect as we boarded the rather slow train that would eventually take us
to the West Coast resort of Southport. This particular train left Leeds a few minutes before 8:30am
the lads would join it at various places along the way, we would be a group of five today which included. Eddie, John, Keith, Derek and Dave, the rest of the Lads having other commitments.
This so called slow train was aptly named due to the amount of stations that it called at on our way.
Too many to mention although some names did raise a few eyebrows!
Some hours later we did arrive at the resort only to find it rather gloomy ,but this did change to bring out a somewhat glorious sunny day as the photos will reveal.
After abandoning the slow train we now headed for a bite to eat at the nearby Something Special Cafe. Thirty minutes later and our meals consumed we now set off in search of the Eco Centre in order to collect our hire bikes, a brief search on the internet had thrown up a few ideas of what to do here in Southport. So now we were taking advantage of this knowledge! and a surprise it would turn out to be. With our bicycles at the ready and the destination to hand off we rode in a somewhat precarious manner at first , we soon got the hang of it as we trundled along making the most of this
great adventure , little did we know what would come next.
After a few miles into our journey we decided to take a short break and discuss whether to alter our intended route and venture in a different direction, this we did .
This trail would eventually take us along the seafront and down by the side of the lakes, this enabling us to take in wonderful views of Southport and it’s neighboring coastline.
On we ventured a few miles later and we found ourselves down under the pier by the side of the lake and listening to the entertainment that was being conducted here at the Marine Lake Cafe.
Moments later we were enjoying the thrilling experience of a jet boat ride out on the lake , what an exhilarating time we had. Safely back on dry land and the entertainment continued, this time it was Elvis who along with us would steal the show so to speak!
As 3:30 approach it was sadly time to leave this venue and the great fun we had enjoyed and return our hire bikes. This done and a thank you to the young lad who had taken care of our requirements we now headed for Lord Street in search of the Swan Cafe and treat ourselves to a late lunch.
With not much more time left here in Southport it was a steady walk back to the Railway Station and endure the long journey back home.
What a really great and wonderful time we all have had on this Adventure
Cheers Lads
Well done lads it looked like a great day out sorry I couldn’t be there.
