Cleethorpes and the Cycling Experience

7th May 2019.       Cleethorpes and the Cycling Experience.

For their adventure today the Lads are heading off to Lincolnshire and the coastal town of Cleethorpes. The journey there will take them some 2 hours or so, an intended  group of six will make the trip today and will consist of Eddie Keith John Colin Derek and Dave. Their proposed  route is by train from Leeds to Doncaster then from there on to Cleethorpes, they should arrive at the coast just a few minutes before 11:00 all going to plan, but things don’t always work out that way.

Unfortunately Derek didn’t make the Leeds train heading for Doncaster due to traffic problems etc, so he arrived at Cleethorpes an hour later than the rest of the lads. Not a major problem, it gave us time to locate the cycle hire shop and get a feel for this place, first impressions looks rather run down and neglected although some restoration work is going on. Eventually Derek arrived, so off to the bike hire shop to collect our mode of transportation for the next couple of hours, Eddie had managed to broker a good deal for a group booking.

Before not too long we were heading along the coastal pathway and away from the town centre on as far as a distant caravan camp site, several stops were made along the way in order to make sure the group was doing fine and happy with our hire bikes.
All seemed to be OK so on we ventured passing numerous holiday makers on our way , we did raise a few laughs as we trundled along. 50 minutes on and it was time to make our return journey, calling in at a recommended fish and chip restaurant to arrange an afternoon appointment.

As 2:15 approached  it was time to return the bikes and say a big thanks to Gavin , the guy who had taken care of all our Cycling needs, from his establishment it was just a short walk to the restaurant we had booked for lunch itwas named Steels Corner House and they didn’t let us down, we all enjoyed a very satisfying meal, an hour or so later we now made our way just the few hundred yards down the road towards the promenade in the direction of Darricottes Ice Cream Parlour to enjoy some of their delicious treats , what an extravagant array of ice cream and syrups, yum yum.
With plenty of time to spare we indulged ourselves and began planning our future adventures ,many many options to consider ,these discussions even carried on as we traveled home from the coastal town of Cleethorpes on the 17:23 train heading for Doncaster and then on to Leeds etc.
Yet another great experience for the Lads
Cheers everyone.

  1. Excellent day out and once again these extreme locations turned out to be a good choice. The weather was occasionally cold but the sun did shine kindly on us from time to time and no rain until we left Doncaster on the way home. Another fabulous day out!
