Wetherby and the Lost Walk

16th May 2019.       Wetherby and the Lost Walk

As the title suggests the Lads will venture to the market town of Wetherby which is about an hours bus ride north of Leeds. Their mission today is to find the Lost Walk , in fact the walk was never lost
it was the Lads that got lost, for some reason or another. Anyhow today they are armed with instructions and a map , large enough for John to see!. The group for this particular adventure will include Dave Colin Malcolm John and Eddie, the rest of the gang have prior commitments etc.
Eddie has taken the decision to meet the rest of us at Wetherby, we will take the X99 bus from Leeds

.
Rendezvous time about 11:35 at the bus terminal in the town. A nice sunny day is in prospect, so

some of the lads have come suitably attired, who wears short shorts!.
From the bus terminus we now crossed the main road and headed down towards the river and the beginning of our search for the Lost Walk. Not before too long the lads consult the map just to get their bearings so to speak!

. Once away from the noise of the traffic on the busy A1. we enter meadow land that runs along side the riverbank, we continue to follow the river for about three quarters of a mile or so till we reach the Water Treatment Plant , from here we deviate slightly and join the roadway that takes us away from the river, map and information consulted at this point , Eddie and John take charge
.

A few minutes later we believe we are on the right track at this point, so on we venture a few more hundred yards , then decision time again. John believes this is where the lads took the wrong pathway on their previous visit. Instructions tells us to enter a grassy walk way that follows the edge of a field heading towards a distance hedgerow  style, then on through further fields towards the farm buildings.

At which point we should take the exit road towards the distant main road. This is what the lads did, pleasurable  moments enjoyed as we walked in the countryside listening to songs of the bird life etc.
Crossing over the main road with care, we now take a pathway that will lead us to the disused railway track that will eventually lead us back towards the town . This achieved it was time for lunch which we took at the Wetherby Whaler fish and chips restaurant situated in the heart of the town.

Time now to reflect upon our journey today, the bus trip from Leeds to Wetherby was via numerous pretty little villages nestled in the countryside what a delightful experience along with our Four and a bit mile walk around the town, our meals enjoyed it was now time to cross over the road and head for the bus terminus and take the ten past three X 98 back to Leeds covering a slightly different route but just as interesting as the outward journey.
What another great day out with the Lads
Plus finding the lost Walk.
Cheers everyone.

  1. A terrific day out with just the right mileage so not too fatigued at the end. I was on the original lost walk and it was good to complete it this time. Great day out roll on Rounday Park on the 23 May!
