The Two R’s Walk.
Thursday 5th. September 2019. The Two R’s Walk.
For today’s adventure the lads are heading for the East Coast of Yorkshire again.
This time they intend to attempt the cliff top walk from Ravenscar to RobinHoods Bay a total
distance of some 5 miles or so. As usual the lads all meet up at Leeds Railway Station, only this time
a little early than normal . The reason for this is they need to catch the 8:21 train heading for
Scarborough, this is in order to make the connection with the seven minutes past ten bus that will
take them to the village of Ravenscar, the bus schedule to this location is very infrequent hence the
early start. As the lads begin to gather on platform 12 their attention is drawn to the departure boards
The time schedule for the train to Scarborough is showing a delay of some 5 minutes or so, this
eventually grows to 15 minutes by the time the train leaves Leeds, every minute is crucial at this
stage of their adventure. The closer they got Scarborough it became apparent someone may have to
run for the bus and ask the driver to wait for the rest of the gang , which would include John Colin
Malcolm Derek and Dave the running job was given to new boy Dicko Ian Dickson, he had decided
to join us on this adventure.
Upon arrival at Scarborough he was off the train quick as a flash and heading in the direction of the
Bus stop, he managed to overrun this by some great distance that it needed a phone call to bring him
back, with just minutes to spare we managed to clamber aboard the number 115 bus that would whisk us off in the direction of Ravenscar
Half an hour later and we were saying farewell to the bus driver and beginning the start of our walk .
The first thing we noticed was the magnificent views from this location only to be surpassed as and when we eventually reached the coastline .
The walk begins with a steady decent down a bricked footpath then through a wooded area before opening up into meadow land and cornfields etc.
The weather conditions have been kind to us and as led to quiet pleasant walking conditions, a pleasure to be out and about and enjoying the spectacular vistas.
We eventually reach the beach and with the tide being on the retreat are able to walk along the shore line for the rest of the journey to RobinHoods Bay. Midday as already passed us bye and with the time approaching 1:45 we managed to enjoy a lunch time meal of fish and chips, courtesy of the Fish Box which is strategically located halfway up the hill as you climb out of the grasps of RobinHoods Bay. About an hour later and we are making our way towards the bus stop in order to catch the X93
that will take us back to Scarborough a journey time of some forty minutes or so, it’s a single decker bus that eventually turns up some fifteen minutes late and overcrowded meaning that we have to stand up for this rather lengthy and jolting ride.
Once back in Scarborough we only have a limited amount of time left , so it’s a visit to McDonalds rather than the Harbour Bar for our ice cream treats.
We eventually leave this East Coast resort and head back to Leeds on the 16:44 train after having a great adventure.
