Walsden Wonder Walk
6th February 2020. Walsden Wonder Walk
For today’s adventure the Lads planned to visit the far reaches of West Yorkshire and head for the village of Walsden, then take the Rochdale canal towpath walk back towards Todmorden and then on to Hebden Bridge. Should be about a distance of some 6 miles or so. What a delightful experience it turned out to be, first surprise for the Lads was a return visit to the group from Brian, who unfortunately has had to miss out on a lot of our previous outings, glad to see him join us for this adventure. Along with Derek John Malcolm Colin and Dave it will be a group of six that take on this journey.
They will make their way to Walsden by means of a train journey and arrive just after 11:30 am. It’s just a short distance from the railway station to the canal here in Walsden, so the lads soon got into their stride and were off in the direction of Todmorden, they had been blessed with a rather nice sunny day, a joy to be out walking in these surroundings. Not before too long the Lads had reached the town of Todmorden and were marvelling at the so called Great Wall of Todd! a structure built of thousands and thousands of bricks in order to support the railway embankment which ran high above the canal.
The next stage of this adventure proved to be a good deal further than expected, it involved a few detours from the canal towpath as repairs where still taking place following the drastic flooding from a few years ago, so it was with rather weary and aching limbs that the lads finally arrived in Hebden Bridge and were on the high street in search of Chapter 17, a local cafe,
highly recommended, not before too long that lads found themselves inside and sat around a table pondering the rather extensive menu and wondering what to choose !
When our various meals arrived we were all presently surprised at how delicious they tasted and relished ever moment consuming them. Brian had left us earlier in order to catch his homeward bound train , his sense of humour being a delight to us on this journey, the rest of us were taking our time over lunch. After thanking the staff here at Chapter 17 it was off to the railway station and the start of our journeys home.
Yet another great day out with the Lads
Cheers.
Thanks Dave well written as usual. Great but tiring day out.
