Meeting at Morley

Meeting at Morley  Thursday 20th August 2020.   Today would see a meeting up for five of the Lads, their venue was the West Yorkshire town of Morley. A place not too far from everyone’s homes . Their rendezvous time was that of midday. It would be the first time that some of the lads had seen each other since late February. John and Colin were first to arrive followed shortly By a surprise visit from Dave who brought along with him Derek, a few moments later Brian came along and joined the group as  we sat outside the Picture House on the high street in Morley. We were blessed with fine weather, lovely sunshine was in abundance and we were taking advantage of this. After several minutes chatting we moved on from this location and set up camp just about 50 yards further down the high street at a recommended establishment named Cocina Cafe. It was rather busy but we managed to find a table to suit our requirements sat outside on the terrace. It was catch up time for us all now, each one
Leeds to Settle  Thursday 13 August 2020 It was overcast and cold as myself and Brian left Leeds on the  10:49  to Carlisle. We would be alighting at Settle  at around 12:00  and picking up John en  route at Bingley  at 11:07 . Leaving  Bingley bang on time we  would soon be in Settle.  Arriving in Settle we made our way out of the station and were pleased that the weather was remarkably warm and sunny in compleare contrast to Leeds.  We chatted with a couple of people originally from Leeds but now living north of Southampton.  We now made our way towards Giggleswick along the high street and took a sharp left at the roundabout toward the railway station at Giggleswick. This was of particular interest to Colin in line with his fascination for railway stations.  After spending a few minutes at the station we made our way back from whence we came but at the roundabout we continued straight on towards Giggleswick School and The Giggleswick School Chapel and the dome. It was a fairly ste
Rodley Bottom to Leeds via Stanningley, Farsley the Cenotaph and Bagley Lane.  Thursday 6 August 2020 Colin left Leeds City Station on the  10:42  to Bradford Interchange where he would be meeting today’s Tourmeister John.  On arrival Colin and John descended the steps and crossed over the concourse and up the escalator to the bus station where we caught the 72 bus to Stanningley Bottom.  Alighting the bus John realised as Colin had already done that we weren’t anywhere near where we were supposed to be.  However, a couple of locals told us that we were a very long way off where we were meant to be. Directions given and forty five minutes later we were sat on the canal side having a breather before setting off for Leeds with a mile post telling us it was 6 1/2 miles which meant today’s walk was going to be no less than 8 1/2 miles.  Setting off along the canal the weather was extremely pleasant and we recognised that we were lucky to be here.  The walk soon passed with two or three s

Scarborough Trip

Thursday 30 July 2020 Leeds to Scarborough  It was an overcast morning as the triumvirate of John, Brian and Colin assembled at Leeds City station for our trip to Scarborough which unlike previous trips would require a change at York.  The train departing on time  @ 09:14  arriving in York  at 09:36  in plenty of time to catch the  10:00  to Scarborough already positioned on platform 2.  The train was extremely busy and unfortunately we had two individuals who didn’t have masks and one of them coughed like a dog barking.  Needless to say we decided to find a distant portion of the train and ended up in first class which was completely empty.  We stayed here until it got to Malton where we disembarked and got in the first three coaches which couldn’t be accessed  from inside the train and found a couple of tables where all the travellers were all thankfully wearing masks for the rest of the journey arriving in Scarborough  at around 10:51  where Alan was waiting.  We then left the stati
