Leeds to Settle
Thursday 13 August 2020
It was overcast and cold as myself and Brian left Leeds on the 10:49 to Carlisle. We would be alighting at Settle at around 12:00 and picking up John en route at Bingley at 11:07. Leaving Bingley bang on time we would soon be in Settle.
Arriving in Settle we made our way out of the station and were pleased that the weather was remarkably warm and sunny in compleare contrast to Leeds.
We chatted with a couple of people originally from Leeds but now living north of Southampton.
We now made our way towards Giggleswick along the high street and took a sharp left at the roundabout toward the railway station at Giggleswick. This was of particular interest to Colin in line with his fascination for railway stations.
After spending a few minutes at the station we made our way back from whence we came but at the roundabout we continued straight on towards Giggleswick School and The Giggleswick School Chapel and the dome. It was a fairly steep climb including a number of steps to reach our intended destination. After a few minutes and John ringing Dave we made our way down to the main road back in to Settle.
Once we found the main road it was a twenty minute hike into Settle and our eatery The Talbot Arms where we decided to dine outside in the sunshine. Drinks and meals ordered we enjoyed a leisurely and delightful feast in glorious sunshine with sufficient shade to make our experience very comfortable indeed.
On leaving the Talbot Arms we meandered over to the ice cream parlour “Ye Old Naked Man Café” where me and John enjoyed a lovely rum and raisin cornet with Brian abstaining.
We now made our way to Settle Station for the 16:28 back to our respective homes John bailing out a Bingley and fourteen days quarantine.
Arriving back in overcast Leeds Brian caught his bus back to Morley and Colin back to Beeston.
Another lovely day out and around 14,000 steps for me and slightly more for John.
