Rodley Bottom to Leeds via Stanningley, Farsley the Cenotaph and Bagley Lane.

Thursday 6 August 2020

Colin left Leeds City Station on the 10:42 to Bradford Interchange where he would be meeting today’s Tourmeister John.

On arrival Colin and John descended the steps and crossed over the concourse and up the escalator to the bus station where we caught the 72 bus to Stanningley Bottom.

Alighting the bus John realised as Colin had already done that we weren’t anywhere near where we were supposed to be.

However, a couple of locals told us that we were a very long way off where we were meant to be. Directions given and forty five minutes later we were sat on the canal side having a breather before setting off for Leeds with a mile post telling us it was 6 1/2 miles which meant today’s walk was going to be no less than 8 1/2 miles.

Setting off along the canal the weather was extremely pleasant and we recognised that we were lucky to be here.

The walk soon passed with two or three stops on the way to allow John to recover. The views across the river and fields an absolute delight passing familiar sights on the way including Kirkstall Abbey looking resplendent in the mid afternoon sun that was now beating down.

The end was now in view as we approached the Leeds Station and crossing over the Whitehall cantilever bridge it was now only minutes before we could rest our weary legs and have a celebratory drink but John had other ideas and I was left on my own as John rushed off for his train back to Bingley.

Great day out with plenty of laughs on the way and this blog is dedicated to our dear friend Dave who is now recovering well in Pinderfields and we wish him a speedy recovery!
