Blackpool to Cleveleys
Blackpool to Cleveleys
15th. May 2018.
The lads outing today would take them to the west coast resort of Blackpool.
Their mission was to walk along the sea front from Blackpool Tower to the resort of Cleveleys.
A reported distance of some 4.7 miles or so!. Once there they would make the return journey by bus or tram.
As per usual the journey starts off at Leeds Railway Station for some of the Lads, others joining the train at different locations in accordance with their own arrangements etc. The train to catch would be the 9:10 Leeds to Blackpool train calling at Bradford Interchange for John and then picking up Derek and Dave at Hebden Bridge on it’s way. The other lads ,Keith Eddie Colin and guest Ian had joined the train at Leeds.
A pleasant journey took in the towns of Accrington, Blackburn and Preston before we eventually reached the resort of Blackpool a few minutes after 11 o’clock. On arrival here on the west coast the weather situation had changed somewhat, we were greeted with a sea mist that took the edge of the temperature, but this didn’t spoil things. We began to enjoy our walk along the promenade to the distant town of Cleveleys , although we were unable to see it as the mist enshrouded the whole coastline at this point.
A couple of hours later the seafront at Cleveley became apparent and before not too long we had reached our goal! A few minutes respite here then off to find our transportation method for the return journey.
Which bus to take the No.7 or the No.9 with our minds made up for us we boarded the No. 9 I think!
Anyhow we arrived back in Blackpool some 25 minutes later. It was a quick exit from the bus and off for lunch at the Yorkshire Fisheries Restaurant. We were greeted by pleasant staff and really enjoyed a great meal, just what was needed after our lengthy walk. On leaving the restaurant pleasant sunshine was now upon us, great!. So it was off to the seafront again and a shorter walk this time in a different direction in order to find our ice cream parlour!
This would proved to be a little further than was expected but the end result was worth it. We all enjoyed our delicious ice cream Treets served to us at Notariannis. Great stuff!
Some time after 4:15 we began to make our journey back towards the Railway Station here at Blackpool , another couple of miles or so to cover at a steady pace for some of us . We reached the station with some 20 minutes to spare, so a last cuppa before saying farewell to this part of the West Coast of Lancashire.
Yet another great day out with the Lads
Cheers.
Thanks Dave, a lovely write up depicting our ten mile walk which combined with ozone and the exercise left us all worn out but happy knowing we gave it our all.
