WOODLAND WALK
Thursday 10th September 2020.
Today 5 of the Lads have embarked on a journey to local beauty spot on the outskirts of Wakefield. A short distance from home for some , whilst others had a much further distance to travel. They made their way there by means of bus , train and car. An approximate time of 11:30 was suggested for them all to rendezvous outside the Beulay Cafe situated on the road bridge at Newmiller Dam. From this point they intended to take about a 2 mile walk around one side of the Dam and then branch off into the marvellous woodlands that surrounds this location. Indeed this is what occurred, Colin and John arriving first courtesy of the 59 bus heading for Barnsley, shortly followed Dave then Brian and finally Derek. Lunch would be taken at this meeting point so a prearranged time of 1:30 was finally decided upon before they set off on their journey. It was a pleasant day ideal for such a stroll along side the lake, plenty of others enjoying this beauty spot as well.
35 minutes later with one side of the lake covered the Lads now took a pathway that ventured off into the wooded area, much conversations taking place has they walked along ,it has been quite a few weeks since some of the lads had seen each other so plenty to talk about. This part of the journey was much more peaceful and quiet, far less people in this neck of the woods so to speak! The only noise was coming from us, we can be rather boisterous at times. After a while we found ourselves back at the lake side and then continued our adventure by heading back along the pathway that would bring us to the Beuley Cafe and a well deserved lunch time meal. Sausage egg and chips for some, whilst others enjoyed Gammon and Beans on toast, over lunch future outings were discussed and the possibility of these ventures taking place, new Corvid virus rules come into force on Monday which may disrupt things somewhat, however we are sure we can adapt to suit these restrictions and look forward to meeting up again in the not too distant future.
Time to say farewell to Newmiller Dam and take our respective modes of transport back towards our homes, a most enjoyable time spent with the Lads.
Cheers Everyone.
