Today’s blog is a brief summary of what the lads have experienced during this year of 2018 Back to January now and the first outing of the year took place with a visit to Beverley which was thoroughly enjoyed This was then followed by a journey to the seaside resort of Scarborough a frequent destination for the lads. Now into February and the lads get a walk in the snow as they tread their way from Woodlesford to Crossgates , next its a long train journey upto Heysham Port and a walk along the coast to Morecambe , the return journey was rather cold!. The month of March is next and this sees the lads head for Ribblehead and get lost in the mist, then it’s a trip to Scarborough but we finished up on the beach at Bridlington. Late spring now and the lads venture to Liverpool and catch a glimpse of the terracotta warriors before climbing to take a rooftop view of the city from the towering heights of the cathedral. 6th December 2018. A City Break. Today’s adventure would take the lads to the city of Leeds, a place they know only too well, that is for most of them. Some would see this visit as a step back in time so to speak! Back to the shop floor and the daily routine of manufacturing surgical instruments. The reason for this is that today the lads are embarking on a visit to the Thackray Museum, a company that some of the lads dedicated most of their working life’s to. The Museum is situated in part of an old wing of St. James Hospital in Leeds. The lads have arranged to all meet up in the city’s bus station at 11 o’clock, the group will include Eddie Keith John Colin Derek and Dave , they have also invited a couple of fellow employees John Howarth and Pete Hoyle. Once the group was assembled at the bus station it was now time to board a number 16 bus that would take the lads to the vicinity of the Thackray Museum just about a Ten minutes ride away

22nd. November 2018. Kelham Island Museum Today’s adventure would take the Lads to the city of Sheffield, south of the boarder here in Yorkshire. We have made plans to meet up on the Leeds to Sheffield train that was due to depart Leeds at 9:38 The group will consist of 6 members those being Colin, Eddie, Malcolm, John , Derek and Dave will join the train at Wakefield a few minutes before 10: am. The train was rather crowded after leaving Barnsley many of the passengers heading to Meadowhall shopping centre on the outskirts of Sheffield. As 10:30 approached our train pulled into Sheffield City Station, from here it was less than a hundred yards to the Tram stop where we were able to take the blue Tram to our destination of Kelham Island. This short journey took us via the City centre on past the Cathedral and the university and children’s hospital before reaching Shalesmoor and the area of Kelham Island. A very friendly chat on the Tram lead to a number of p

8th. November 2018 Dewsbury to Calder Island Today’s adventure was a welcome home gesture for Dave, he’s been Holidaying out in Spain. The lads let him take care of the arrangements for today’s outing . He decided upon a canal side walk which would take the Lads from Dewsbury to the outskirts of Wakefield at a location known as Calder Island, a distance of some 6 miles or so. The arrangements were for the Lads to all meet up at the railway station in Dewsbury around about 10:00 am. The group consistered of Colin, Malcolm, Eddie, John and Dave the other members having prior arrangements. Due to train problems, John had a rather lengthy delay to face, so modern technology stepped in and we were able to rearrange things, 11:07 was the new meeting up time. John apologising for his misfortune. Apology accepted we now began our journey a 20 minutes walk through the streets of Dewsbury to join the Calder and Hebble navigation at a point named Saviletown Mar

27th. September 2018. Whitby to Sandsend Our adventure today will take us to the East Yorkshire Coast, the intended destination will be the resort of Sandsend. The journey there will begin as usual with meeting up at Leeds Railway Station in order to catch the 9:20 train heading for Scarborough. Our eventual group will number six in total, this being John, Eddie, Colin, Dave and Derek, Allan will be joining us at Scarborough. True to form the train was delayed by a few minutes , as most of the trains are these days , we also had a platform change to contend with. We finally departed Leeds at 9:32 heading for York and beyond, our journey time is just over an hour, so with only a few minutes to spare we now joined the ever increasing que of passengers waiting to climb aboard the X93 Whitby bound bus, good job it was a double decker. With almost ever seat occupied , we set off on this very scenic route exploring the wonderful countryside here in Yorkshire.
