Image
23rd. January 2020.             Settle and Giggleswick Trip For their second adventure of this new year, the lads have chosen to take a train journey to the far reaches of North Yorkshire, to the town of Settle and combine it with a visit to nearby Giggleswick . Again the lads will meet at Leeds Railway Station in order to catch the 10:49 train heading for Carlisle. They will be a group of five, which will include John Malcolm Colin Derek and Dave. It was  rather a dull grey and misty day that greeted the lads has they stepped from the train just about an hour later. The weather conditions back in Leeds had been much better for this time of year. Anyway this this did not dampen their spirits has they walked along the streets of Settle heading towards the river Ribble and the footpath that would eventually take them on to the village of Giggleswick. Just nice to be out in the fresh air the lads thought, even though there was a h...

9th January 2020.                York Trip Today sees the first outing of the new year for the Lads, they have decided to visit the city of York Their means of reaching the city are by taking a journey on the infamous Zap Bus, a luxury coach that operates between the two cities of Leeds and York , it’s a limited stop service so the journey time is relatively quick. The Lads have arranged to meet in Leeds Bus Station in order to catch the 10:30 Bus. It will be a group of five that make this trip to York and will include Derek Dave John Colin and Keith. The lads arrived in the city of York at about 11:15 the weather was better than expected with no rain to be seen although a rather cold wind was in our faces as we walked along side the river bank  heading for the Millennium Bridge a distance of just over a mile or so from the city centre. Extreme care had to be taken as we shared the footpath with cyclists and dog walkers, at one ...

2019 Revisited

Image
8th. December 2019.              A year of Events  Today is a look back at what the lads have experienced throughout this year including the highs and the lows. January started off with a visit to the Science and Industry Museum in the heart of Manchester  It proved to be such an informative experience. Next it was off to Scarborough again and an enjoyable walk along the sea front in order to taste our favourite delight of fish and chips courtesy of the North Bay Fisheries, not forgetting the Harbour Bar   Visit. February now and next it was a canal side walk that took us from Slaithwaite onto the next village of Marsden , nice to be out in the fresh air. Also taking note of what the Riverside Pub had to offer regarding our food requirements. Christmas in mind! The next few outings where mainly concerned with getting our dear friend Eddie Hampshire back to his usual self after undergoing some serious...

The Marsden Gathering

5th December 2019.            Christmas Dinner Outing  Today would see a group of seven lads meet up in the village of Marsden , which is situated on the far reaches of their home county of West Yorkshire. Their means of getting to this intended location will take on somewhat of a twist. At the time of choosing this venue at the Brewery Tap Riverside Pub in Marsden , all seemed pretty clear , a canal side walk from the village of Slaithwaite on to Marsden was considered then our Christmas Dinner at the pub. But recent weather conditions and alternative arrangements have interfered with these plans. John  had to travel up from Brackley , quite a logistic operation, Colin Malcolm and Dave have decided to do the walk after all , and will be taking an earlier train, the rest of the lads which will include Derek  ,Keith and John Howarth should arrive in Marsden from the 12:38 train. But things didn’t go quite to plan, John informed us that his ...

This journey would take them along the footpath by the side of the Aire and Calder navigation then over the rather noisy weir that leads to the river Aire. then onto the extensive wetlands area of St. Aidan’s. The Lads intend to meet at the Railway Station in Woodlesford at a few minutes after 11 o’clock  Colin and John have come by train from Leeds, Derek and Dave traveled by bus from Wakefield, Keith and Alan made their way by separate cars. Alan had arrived first followed by Derek and Dave then Keith and finally Colin and John , Alan had a nice surprise for us all, he had brought along some of Eddies favourite pork pies , enough for all and more besides, well appreciated gesture. We soon found ourselves down by the waterside and walking along t...
